Marvine Gaye

What's Going On/What's Happening Brother***Nice cuts live, as The Man plays the piano & sings. So effortlessly. What a spirit has come & gone across the face of this earth that does not or cannot hear or see what's going on.

I've read the books & listened to his music. The album that contained this cut[in the studio]-like every song was a gem. What a Man, What a Soul, What a Spirit. Godspeed Sir...*

Falling in Love Uh Oh

Miami Sound Machine***It's the only one that my eyes caught, but it sure is pretty.

I've experienced this in & out quite a few times ; But the heaviest idea of all is, If you're with someone & you wonder at times about the passion, well I'll tell you something.

The passion is of the heart-[as many of my female readers already understand ]- But it can happen to you too girls; As for men, some may say it with the heart, or many may say it with the pants...*

Go for the heart, it will always win in the end...*

Help

The Beatles***This one's a nice live clip. But I don't know as of the T.V. I would presume it might have came from British televion. Black & white...I don't know.

But I do know, It'll take something supernatural to materialize anything, near to their music...*

坂本龍一 Before Long

Ryuichi Sakamoto*** An artist of many shades & shadows ; Of darkness & light. Of blues, purples & green deep cool covers; Gazing at the meridian at night as the sun goes down.

What does that mean ? I don't know...What a tremendous sonic painter...*

Touching You

U2***On around 80 or so, I heard it on "Rodney on the rocks" on KROQ in Los Angeles. I knew they had it.

About a week later my girlfriend won a couple of tickets to go see them at the Santa Monica Civic. It was obvious they had it. They didn't even play the song. They had it already.

Feels Like The First Time

Foreigner*** What a great song. I think it's the best cut they have, then or now. The synthesizer auto-arpeggio was a cool tool when it first came in. I still like it.

Good Band, Good compositions, Great singer...But What Do I Know...*

Moving In Stereo/It's All Mixed Up

The Cars***What an amazing first album; Did producer Roy Thomas Baker have a hand in the sound ? Did George Martin have a hand in The Beatles sound ? The first cut is "Moving In Stereo". It's a fine song in itself, but my emphasis here is on the latter.

What a band.This song "It's All Mixed Up" is superb ; A Timeless piece of Pop Candy with Power;

Travels right up the spine. It hurts so much, I've been there...You have to have been there. Or it won't make any sense. Then you'll be all mixed up...*

First Love Never Dies

Scott Walker***Is The Walker Brothers. Actually they're not brothers. Now Scott Walker, is a musical genius. Hands down, enigma & all.

So, I strongly suggest you have a listen to his prolific body of work, from the 60's moving onwards & upwards.

The man is one of a kind. When God made Mr. Walker, he threw away the mold. Remember...* The New Is Old...The Old Is Strikingly New...*

Heavenly Homes

Bill Nelson & Be Bop Deluxe are easily the most under-rated band & solo artist in the history of modern music. Mr. Nelson's prolific body of work is that of a master craftsman. Pure & unadulterated brilliance. As quoted by Hunter S. Thompson: The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side. ==========Hunter S. Thompson...*

I'm Satisfied

Lou Rawls***From the film "Duffy" with James Coburn. I was always a fan of James Coburn & I think he was one of the most under-rated actors...At the end of this movie, I heard this cut ; They chop it out at the end before it's finished on this sample.

Also a big fan of Lou Rawls ; So you put the two elements together & you walk out of the theater slightly altered in some way or other. Even Though a was a little kid at the time, I had a bit of a swagger in my walk & I'll never forget that moment.

Godspeed Sirs...*

Party Train ft Laurel & Hardy

The Gap Band*** such a groove to the smooth. What an idea about the bridge that separates us. Kudos to the fellow who put it together, the time sync...cool. We're more together with each other than one might realize.

Strength through diversity works. All roads lead to the same destination. Godspeed Sirs...*

Angel

Fiona Apple***Fly on my sweet angel by Jimi Hendrix ; Fiona does the best cover of this song that I've ever heard. I'm glad she picked this song in particular, because a lot of people don't realize that Jimi Hendrix was more than capable in composing beautiful touching music, just like this song.

As for Fiona, I'm not interested in any gossip that Public Relations firms put out. For that matter, I'm not interested in anybodys personal life either. Actually, all I could say is Ms. Apple knows the ways of so called "major labels" modus operandi. It's all a bunch of bull, as I've mentioned in the past many times if anyone has read my ideas on the subject. Ms. Apple had the balls & hit the nail on the head.

A women of this extreme talent, to be F---ed around with regarding release dates or anything else is ludicrous.

It's obvious to me that Fionna Apple is a brilliant singer & artist. She's as capable & adroit in nuance as anyone. She just knocks my socks off. She's bewitchingly beautiful & enthralling.

But What Do I Know Anyway...*

You Make Me Crazy

Utopia***Willie Wilcox is about the best drummer/vocalist I can ever think of, with the possible exception of Phil Seymour, God Bless Him.

The live version of this song is so good, it's almost better than the studio track. I'm so glad I had the chance to see them live. One of the best conceived 4-piece units period. Along with Mr. Rundgren & Kasim Sultan, these guys knocked my socks off.

There's some comedy on this music video, but check out the track. Great PowerPop candy for the discriminating listener...*

You & Me

The Moody Blues***Off of their Seventh Sojourn album. This music is as timeless as it is beautiful. When you search their body of work, The Moody Blues & in particular Justin Hayward are a prime example of musical brilliance & are one of the most under-rated bands of the 20th century ; They still go onwards & upwards. But What Do I Know Anyway...*

Tears From The Sun

Kieko Matsui***I have the distinct feeling, there's not one note that is not beautiful, in all of Ms. Matsui's audio-sonic palette...*

Her Keyboard chops are as adroit as her bewitching & enthralling compositions. With a beautiful voice & a prolific body of work that flows forever...*

For there are no reasons that we live or we die in vain. Love is the power & it flows like the ocean & caresses down the waterfall of Ms. Matsui's art.

Ryuichi Sakamoto

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (Live)***This man is a musical genius period. Have a listen to this particular live version of the above.

I mean, the movie is alright, Mr. Bowie acts a decent performance; to add an even more enthralling acting character from Mr.Sakamoto himself..; But the soundtrack & this song is light years away from anything to do about the movie.

There's nothing like a great post modern artist of this caliber & Mr. Sakamoto is a prime example.

It's a breath of fresh air to know that some magnificent music is out there, if you look around a little. Don't bother with the brick & mortar for purchasing power, that's an old dinosaur on it's last legs unless you're in the U.K. or somewhere or other-[HMV].

I know in my heart that this music goes straight to the heart, but might not be for everyone. I must admit that I still prefere the original movie score with additional arrangement components, either way have a listen...Cheers...*

Windows Of The World

Tori Amos***With Burt Bacharach, it's just a stylistic twist, as to whether or not the singer is Ms. Amos, Ms. Warwick, Ms. Streisand or Ms.Hynde who throw their Voxanoia at the wonderous compositional creation.

They're all stupendous , but it's really the guy with the ears, emotion & imagination that is the true cats' meow ; Even though Tori is on the cusp of Leo...I'll take the later, but Ms. Amos sure is an ethereal creature all of her own...But What Do I Know Anyway...*

The Night In My Veins

The Pretenders***As is usually is the case, Ms. Hynde's stylistic stamp on her vox keeps this tune humming right along.

When she's on there is no mistaking it. Must be the best vanilla voice this side of who knows where.
I would frequently roll the window down on this cut on my way out or back to the haunted crib.

Really, Chrissie has absolutely one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard...*

All My Trials

Paul McCartney***I still need to move through these levels of Mr. M's work. Because sooner or later, a jewel such as this shows off its' effulgent gleam.

Sir Paul just has that magic that only a scant few of us all have, to his degree.. It's a true gift of God. I just have to put my mining hat on & I'm sure to fine some jewels.

This is one of them & take note that it's a 20 yr. old song ; But with great material, the time clock can be thrown into the garbage. Which is what a huge lot of stuff is these days. But What Do I Know Anyway...*
